RESOLUTION NO.: 42 DATED: March 13, 2001 WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights is particularly concerned with the noise caused by the increased air traffic at Teterboro Airport as the flight path for some of the Teterboro runways directs air traffic directly over the residential area of the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights; and WHEREAS, Teterboro Airport has plans that will have a significant impact on the surrounding Bergen County communities affected by increased air traffic of larger aircraft; and WHEREAS, the current aircraft weight limit at Teterboro Airport is 100,000 pounds and has been 100,000 pounds since 1967; and WHEREAS, Teterboro Airport plans to allow the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ), weighing up to 170,000 pounds, land at the airport which could cause serious safety and health hazards to the surrounding communities, plus increase the present aircraft weight to 70 per cent over the present 100,000 pound limit; and WHEREAS, the Boeing company is meeting with the Port Authority (PA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to encourage a waiver of Teterboro Airports current 100,000 pound limit; and WHEREAS, there is a bipartisan coalition consisting of Federal and State Legislators, County Executive William "Pat"Schuber, surrounding communities including the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights, Teterboro Aircraft Noise Abatement Advisers Committee (TANAAC), and Alliance of Municipalities Concerning Air Traffic (AMCAT); NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council strongly opposes this waiver to increase the aircraft weight limit to 170,000 pounds, and that a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded to President George W. Bush, Congressman Steven Rothman, County Executive William "Pat" Schuber, Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders, State Legislators in Districts 37 and 38, and to each of the surrounding communities of Teterboro Airport.
