The Record, Tuesday, October 24, 2000 Your Views Planes, not pilots, create noise By Marge Cardile, East Rutherford, Oct. 20.Regarding Paul Jansens "On Teterboro and aircraft noise" (Your Views, Oct. 20): I am happy to hear there are courteous pilots out there. But I dont think it is the pilots who are creating the noise. It is the aircraft. I would like to invite Mr. Jansen to spend one dinner hour at my home. We have actually had to stop talking to each other and wait for an airplane to either land or take off because the noise was so loud. Watching television is also an adventure. We just perk up our ears or fill in the blanks when airplanes pass overhead. Enjoying the outdoors during the summer months is another activity that we have had to curtail not because of the West Nile virus but because we cannot converse with neighbors "over the back fence" when airplanes make hearing each other virtually impossible. This past summer was especially loud. Also, I was happy to hear that Teterboro was voted the safest airport for its size in the country. That knowledge certainly helps me sleep better at night. ####
